Amrit Centre for Special Needs is run by “The Society for the Aid of Handicapped Children”, a voluntary organization, which started to function in 1963 to cater to the needs of mentally and physically challenged children. Currently in the 53rd year of service, the Institution has extended its services to help differently abled persons in their physical and psychological adjustment to society.
The Institution has well equipped departments with well-trained personnel to handle the services mentioned. In appreciation of its services for the cause of the differently abled, the Society was awarded the “Best Institution Aware” by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Tamilnadu in 1992.
In 1995 to 1997 mentally challenged students of our school Participated in The National level Special Olympics and won several Gold and Silver medals.
The society is largely supported in its activities by help received from Philantropist Public, Industrialists, Rotary Clubs, Ladies Circles, Inner Wheel Clubs, Lions Clubs, Sathya Sai Samithis etc.

Raksha – the Hospice and Palliative Care Centre was inaugurated on the 13th of June 2001 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital’s service to the community. Since then we have been providing high quality Palliative Care to patients in Coimbatore. Palliative Care is a field of medicine that aims at improving quality of life patients who face life threatening problems like cancer, heart, kidney, lung and neurological diseases. Staffs at the Raksha Hospice are committed to support such patients and their families.
Raksha Hospice is a peaceful 15 bedded unit at Sengadu in PN Palayam were terminally patients can receive supportive care completely free of cost. We also provide home based care for patients who are unable to visit hospitals. A specially trained multidisciplinary team at Raksha with includes doctors, nurses, health care assistants, physiotherapists, dieticians and counsellors provide Palliative Care for patients at all stages of a disease and at all settings. Our services are underpinned by a respect to human dignity and care for the physical, psychological, spiritual and emotional needs of the person, whatever their age, lifestyle, culture and spiritual belief.
